Preventing Cerebral Plasy: Magnesium Sulphate to the Unborn Fetus?

If you are reading this, then likely you already have a Family Member affected by Cerebral Palsy. If so, then please share this with young women who may someday become Mothers.

All of it has shown that by administering this chemical compound to pregnant women just before they deliver a premature 22 to 30 week old fetus, cerebral palsy could be prevented. Indeed, according to the director of Adelaide University’s Research Centre for Health of Women and Babies, Professor Caroline Crowther, “this is the biggest breakthrough in world cerebral palsy prevention research in the past 50 years.”

School Bans Child with Cerebral Palsy from Using Her Walker

This is such an important story. It’s absolutely unconscionable that a mother, that any parent or guardian for that matter, be treated in the manner that this mother was. Whether you agree or disagree with the school’s decision, there is still absolutely no cause for this kind of treatment. To tell a mother that they are not concerned about their child is be on my comprehension. If the school truly feels that this is a matter for the court, that’s fine. However, this mother deserves to be treated with respect and her child deserves to be treated with dignity.

That being said, watch this video if for no other reason than to celebrate McKay’s first steps.

A positive attitude, yes. But an important message.

But it is not only as a comedian that Clark is seeking to challenge our notion of what disabled people can or can’t do. He and his wife Adele, 34, who also has cerebral palsy, are parents to two able-bodied sons: Tom, eight, and nine-month-old Jamie. As a couple, they refuse to be defined by their impairment in a society that is still shockingly unused to seeing disabled parents intent on pursuing independent lives.

Treatment being studied at College of Staten Island stimulates the brain, spinal cord and muscles in those with cerebral palsy, stroke

His system aims to strengthen these neuromotor connections and make the muscles more responsive. During treatment sessions held three times a week for six weeks, Dr. Ahmed uses a device to send a magnetic pulse to the brain – similar to an MRI – while simultaneously sending electrical signals to the desired muscle group and spinal cord.

‘PediaSuit’ helps cerebral palsy patient walk

In ‘Spider Therapy’, bungee cords are attached to a belt which she wears to hold her body up in correct alignment. Once she is positioned, she is able to move through her therapy exercises without painful stress on her joints, whilst her therapist has both hands free to facilitate her correct movement patterns.
